Religion vs. State

NHD Topic Essay

Being that this will be my second chance in participating in the NHD project, the project that I will be researching is The Great Depression. Researching the great depression was not my idea, a group of friends of mine decided on researching the topic and invited me to be apart of their group and I accepted. But doing a little reading I decided that this was a good topic and group to be apart of. I decided to research the great depression because I wanted to know exactly what the great depression was how it was started, what happened, who was apart of it, what the government did or did not do, or was it something that just happened over night.

October 1929 was the crash of the stock market in North American, Europe and other industrialized countries, by 1933 banks in the US were closing at a high rate, 11,000 of 25,000 banks were closed, and people that invested in stock or had money in the bank lost everything, causing people and their families to turn to chariest for survival.

Just going to two of three sources I found this much information out just imagine when I go in dept on this topic.

Religion vs. State

Balancing religion and state is difficult to do, the life decisions that we make as people is based on two parts; one on laws and the other on our religions beliefs, and having the topic of the beginning of life is the example of the balancing of religion and state in the school system. Should the public school district just teach evolution or intelligent design or both?

My view on the topic is that only Darwin’s theory of evolution should be taught instead of Intelligent Design (ID), because intelligent design only gives the point of view of Christian faith, it does not involve other religious views, so why should students only except Christians belief on the beginning of life and turn away other religious beliefs or explanations?

Both of these topics try to explain the reason of why and how living things came to be. One is Darwin’s theory, it is driven by the differences of birds he noticed on a expedition off the coast of South America called the Galapagos. Darwin noticed the different sizes of bird’s beaks, different from the ones he had seen on other trips and back home, coming to the conclusion that the birds must have adapted to the environment in which they live. While ID says that there’s a higher power that created all living things, in the way that they are now and that animals did not evolve.

During the case of Dover Vs the school board in was stated that in the Constitution it says that the schools shall not teach religion in school, also the case mentioned that ID is not science but Darwin’s theory is science. Therefore only Darwin’s theory should be taught in the public school system.
